Brave New Workshop

The Performance Track is geared for those that want to perform improvisation on the stage. You must audition for the Performance Track, and we do recommend that you have previous improv training (either through the Student Union's Everyday Improv classes or at a different institute) before auditioning for the Performance Track. Each Performance level ends with a showcase for friends and family.

Performance Level 1

This focus for this class is to hone the skills of each student. Over the eight week's of class, you will explore what it takes to build a strong improv scene and find the tools needed to perform at your highest ability. The instructor will offer critical feedback for each student to help identify habits and blocks to true play and discovery within scenes.

Performance Level 2

This level continues to focus on building the skills needed to create strong scenes and lay the foundation for you to always make the choices that will heighten your scenes. In addition, you'll learn improvisational techniques like the "cut to" or the "call back" which are used to add depth and humor to improv to performance.

Performance Level 3

During this level, you will be introduced to a number of long-form structures that are designed to truly test your skills of improvisation. From the La Ronde to the Movie to the Deconstruction, you'll learn many different approaches to creating a long-form performance piece.

Performance Level 4

This final level of the Performance Track is centered around the Harold, a long-form structure that demands that every student work at the peak of their abilities.  Taking this class is equivalent to getting a black belt in awesome.
